While not a true “home-made” in the literal sense of the word, this German sawdust-filled feline still offers us all the charm of her genre.

Measuring 9 ½ inches long from tip of nose to tip of tail and 5 1/2 4 inches tall, she is fashioned out of an off-white flannel decorated appropriately with gray spots.  Both machine and hand sewn, she is hard-filled with sawdust and still retains her original shoe-button eyes and red linen ribbon.  She is in very good condition for her age although much of her flannel nap is rubbed to the nub.

I have a small collection of these “store-boughts” that were produced in Germany as a cottage industry for export to the United States and elsewhere.    The bulk of these creatures were produced from about 1880 to about 1920, although animals similar in construction were being produced as late as 1940.

This particular feline happens to be from that collection.  She’s a bit unusual for her spots as most were usually striped.

She’s looking for a new home as I pare down in anticipation of a future move.
