Old Cloth Doll

Wildly expressive is the best way to characterize this doll's face. It's that way because the face you are seeing is her original inked face that still bears remnants of a later stitched mouth and nose. The back of her head still bears the later covering complete with water colored hair. I purchased her this way.

Her body is stuffed with cotton batting and covered in linen. Both arms have 2 inch remnants of a darker brown linen covering her forearms and hands. As you can see in the photo, the remaining head covering is of the same dark brown linen. It might be possible that her second life was that of a black doll, although I'm speculating here. But the cloth is brown, not aged and dirty.

At any rate, she stands almost 19 inches tall and measures approx. 4 ½ inches across the shoulders. She is in very good condition showing some signs of wear attendant with age and use. She still sports her original underclothing: full shift and bloomers, but I think her dress is a re-dress from long ago.

She is quite intriguing which, in my book, makes her ever more appealing!

Price: $950 $475
