If you are a fan of make-do pieces such as I am, then you just have to love this wonderful strawberry make-do pincushion.
Measuring about 7 inches tall, and 3 inches at its widest, it is done in cotton and challis, and stuffed with cotton batting. It is in excellent condition with some signs of wear attendant with age and use. There is a wear spot in the top where the top fabric has worn to expose the homespun linen ground that was used underneath.
The base is an old glass candlestick holder and measures 3 ¼ inches in diameter.
I love the color combination: the soft taupe ad the deep forest green. I believe that the strawberry may have been red, but nicely faded to this most pleasing color.
There is a remnant of a satin ribbon that covered its base.
I purchased this piece at the Mid-Week Show in New Hampshire many years ago to add to my collection of strawberry make-dos. I chose it for its clean and slender line, and its unique color.
It has been in my collection ever since, but is now being offered as I have decided to thin down a very extensive collection of these charming and very folky pieces of folk art.
