While I will be the first to admit that I don’t know an awful lot about decoys, I do know folk art and what appeals to me as such. Over the years I’ve amassed a small collection of these tin shorebird decoys because I love the way they are painted as no two are ever alike it seems.

This particular one measures 10 inches in body length and 5 ½ inches tall (without the stand). Its condition is that of a working decoy so there is chipping of paint and some oxidation in spots as well as a bend in it s beak. The paint itself appears to be its original guise. I do not believe it was ever repainted. Age: Late 19th/early 20th C. Origin: Southern New Jersey.

These look great either hanging from a rig, or perched on a robin’s egg blue clock shelf!
