Victorian Cat Figural Autograph Book

When I decided to list this book, I could not make up my mind as to what   “cat”egory (no pun intended) to place it in, as it is both a cloth cat as well as a wonderful and unique piece of ephemera.  That having been said however, I decided to place it in with my cloth dolls and animals and let it be discovered as it may.

Measuring 5 ½ inches tall by 4 ¾ inches at its widest by 1 inch deep, this autograph book’s covers are fashioned out of pressed board which as been covered in velvet and formed into the shape of a sitting feline with the front cover showing the most detail.  In excellent condition, it still retains its original glass eyes and satin bow.  As you compare back to front you will notice some fading in color, but that is to be expected, as the front was the premiere side to be displayed.  It does not at all detract from the uniqueness or quality of the piece.  In fact, this is the exact condition I purchased it in and it has been carefully displayed under glass all these years.

Interior condition is very good but the quality of the 11 autographs themselves are unremarkable – meaning there are no poems or water colored drawings, just the standard well wishes for the future.  There is one loose page, the frontispiece.  I make no apologies, it’s not what I purchased it for.

To reiterate, I did not but this piece for the autographs but for its uniqueness and charm.  I’ve only seen one other in my entire time of collecting and this one is fresh out of my collection.  It is a stellar piece to add to any collection of felines, ephemera or both!
